Title
The Repentant Magdalen, by de La Tour (1635, c.)
Description
The image represents Mary Magdalen sitting on a table looking at a mirror. A candle lightens up the scene. Mary Magdalen's right hand is placed on her face, and her left hand is placed on a skull. The skull, which is also reflected on the mirror, lacks any identifiable gender traits. There is a clearly triangular identification between her, the skull and the reflection on the mirror. This is reinforced by the placement of her hands, one on her face and the other on the skull.
