Title

Skeletons as death taking the living away, by Gamelin (1779)

Description

This image represents a scene where skeletons are taking living men and women. Some of the individuals are still alive and struggling to free themselves from the skeletons, some are already dead. Although skeletons are not represented with specific gender attributes (hair, dresses, etc.), the skeleton that appears in the center of the image carrying a woman on its arms displays a masculine attitude of a kidnapper of a woman.
