Gender perspective: The death of distinguished female characters, such as the Empress, Queen or Duchess in the Holbein tradition. The character of death may be represented as a female corpse with breasts and long hair, or as a neutral figure, often as a fool, or a neutral skeleton mimicking the Queen's identity through clothes and gestures. In other cases, death is represented as if taking part in a masquerade and temporarily assuming the identity and gender of the royal woman as part of the festivities.
