Title

Of the bitterness, sweetness, by Covarrubias Horozco (1610)

Description

The emblem represents a skull that rests on an altar. Numerous bees appear surrounding the skull, and honeycombs appear in the foreground.

Gender perspective: Death as a contradictory category of bitterness and sweetness. It is presented a place of resting from sin and the conquest of glory, nearly in feminine terms.
