Title
Dance of Death VI, by Claesz (1562)
Description
This engraving represents a couple, the woman in the centre and the men on the right. On the left and holding the woman by her hand, is a skeleton representing death. In this image, death acts as a mirror image of the husband, who is mimicked with the hat and the sword. Death is here a doppelganger of the husband and the suitor of the wife. This way, death relates in two different ways to the gender of the victims.
