Title
Death and Three Nude Women, by Beham (1520, c.)
Description
This image represents three young nude women forming a circle, and a skeleton staring at one of the women. The woman in the center is placing her right foot on a skull, that does not present any sex or gender traits.
Gender perspective: This engraving seems to be a parody of the Three Graces or the Three Ages (since the woman on the left seems to be old). It is not clear whether death appears as a female character or as a male character who joins the dance of life, in contradiction to the tradition of the dance of death.
