Title

The Great Last Judgment, by Rubens (1617)

Description

Original title: Das Große Jüngste Gericht ("The Great Last Judgment").

Rubens depicts Judgment day in this painting. We can see Christ represented in the center top section of the painting. This top half of the painting represents heaven, whereas the bottom half represents the earth. Similar to van Eyck's depiction of the last judgment (The Crucifixion; The Last Judgment, by van Eyck (1440, c.)), Rubens represents nakedness on earth after resurrection but not in heaven. This painting also has a relatively rare image of a female character covering her breasts as if out of modesty or shame, after resurrection.
